With typography being one of the foundations of design, hundreds of typefaces have been created. Using the five historical typefaces, Old Style, Transitional, Modern, Slab Serif, and San Serif, an exploration of typographic form, vocabulary, and syntax, was analyzed to display their individual qualities. Researching the five different typefaces within the five categories, a spacious layout was developed to enhance each typeface and clearly display different attributes of each one. Each page highlights one letter of the alphabet in the order of the typeface being described. I choose a warmer color palette that would not be distracting to the content and would compliment each typeface and the book as a whole. Integrated into the layouts are quotes from Thoughts on Design by Paul Rand, which refers to the beauty of type and design.
